Pramod Ganpatye

"Art could be light. The light that creates light remaining within the light, it cannot be thought, nor can it be seen before it occurs. It is, what it is"

Art is not logic nor idea. It is not to see, to smell, to hear and to know properly. It can be the dialogue between knowing and not knowing, the wave between tone and sound. It can be the distance between sight and understanding the space between two words. Art could be light. The light that creates light remaining within the light, it cannot be thought, nor can it be seen before it occurs. It is, what it is. The key to the secret of existence. Art is the present.

Artist Biodata

Born in Dewas (MP), drawing did not come suddenly in the work of Pramod Ganapatye. He did a lot of sketches in the early days which were published in magazines. Apart from this, he made the cover pages of the books and also did illustrations for them. Worked with fashion designers as well, but gradually he started feeling that all this was not art, so he left them and started painting completely. In 1984 he started painting seriously. Initially, he did a lot of abstract work and found success in the art world as well as in the market. But in the days when most of the artists of Madhya Pradesh were doing abstraction under the influence of Raza and Swaminathan, Pramod Ganapatye left abstraction and started figurative work. From 1984 to 1991, he quietly searched for his inner artist, and when he did emerge, he had completely changed. Drawing had become important in place of painting, live figures had come in place of abstraction. It was from here that the people of Malwa (Indore, Ujjain and surrounding areas in Madhya Pradesh), their life and culture became central to his work. There is a unique beauty in his drawing even in men and women with heavy bodies. His sculptures appear Maharashtrian, probably because the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh was also a Maratha region. While his drawing of large size gives the introduction of his capable artist, the dynamism in the postures and body structure of his figures make his work more alive. This is the reason why his figures feel alive.
