I have been actively engaged with the creative process for more than three decades. My practice primarily include painting were I have been exploring diverse mediums of expression, namely Acrylic on canvas, Reverse on acrylic sheet, Water Color on paper and mix media. Lately I have been also exploring the genre of painted sculptures. My paintings are figurative particularly human figures usually women who are the main characters in my paintings. I compose human figures against the background and with other objects I pick up from everyday life around me with an intention to create purely pictorial compositions. My recent human figures are real unlike my earlier works which were idealistic. This realism is seen as a blend with a kind of sense to create not exactly fantasy but is beyond mere realty. I use bright colour to capture the typicality of colourful Indian life which I see from a kind of distance. My theme is based on men and women with their desires, pleasure and disappointments....

Artist Biodata

Swapan Bhandary was born in West Bengal. He has studied Fine Arts, specialized in painting from Kala Bhavan, Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan in 1984. A student of the legendry artist and scholar K. G. Subramanyan. He started his professional journey as an artist from his first one man show in Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai in 1986. A winner of Six national level awards from Bombay Art Society, Rajasthan Lalit Kala Akademy to name a few. Eight one man shows and more than Eighty group shows and national and international level exhibition participation which also include national art exhibitions for Six times. He participated in several national and international art camps. These shows held in the most prestigious art galleries like CIMA Art Gallery,Kolkata, Dhoomimal Art Centre, New Delhi, Right Lines Art Gallery, Bangalore so on. His exhibitions held in abroad include Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore and UK. He participated with his painting exhibition in Commonwealth Week Art Festival of UK in London. His paintings are in the collections of National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, Lalit Kala Akademy, New Delhi, Dubar India, Bharatiya Airtel, Atlus Cycle, Welcome Group and many private collections in India and abroad.
